Fridge Temperature Could Lower Insulin’s Effectiveness according to New Research

A new research has been revealed by a diabetes studies association in Berlin. It indicates that insulin is possibly at risk of being exposed to incorrect refrigeration temperatures, whether it is at home or anywhere else.

This is a very sensitive issue, and people should take the ideal precautions since insulin itself is something that can cost a lot of money, and it’s something that people will be injected to their bodies for a long time.

Sensitive To Temperatures

It’s common for certain injections to be sensitive to some temperatures, either cold or heat. When it comes to insulin, it’s recommended that when stored in the refrigerator, the temperature be at 2-8 ° C / 36-46 ° Fahrenheit.


To investigate about the ideal temperatures for insulin, a study was carried out in certain parts of the United States and Europe, placing temperature sensors to take automatic measurements, and then send them to the experts.

The study yielded certain results, in which the majority of the samples were stored at a temperature that isn’t recommended by doctors and other experts, only a small number of people were using the correct temperatures.

Some even freeze the insulin, believing that it will protect the injection preserving it for a longer time, which isn’t true. It rather impairs the effectiveness of the insulin at the time the injection defrosts.


If you are storing insulin in your fridge or anywhere else,  you should use a thermometer to verify that it’s stored at the correct temperature so the insulin doesn’t lose the effect that it should have on the person with diabetes.

This is an incredibly helpful study since many people with diabetes didn’t know what was happening with the insulin they injected into their bodies. And given that it’s less effective, the results of the patient will never be the same.
